Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between coaching and counseling?
Counseling is a person-based approach, which includes a full intake, diagnosis, and treatment plan. These sessions target a client-identified issue and clinical expertise to improve the mental health of the client, using evidence based treatment. We treat: anxiety, depression, PTSD, personality disorders, suicidal ideation, and eating disorders.
Counseling is available through the Good Works pending availability in your state. We currently only offer counseling services in South Carolina.
Coaching is a goal-directed, motivation-driven, conversation. Topics of interest to the mentee are discussed, with a clear lens in mind. Through the Good Works, coaching is driven by Catholic principles and will entail a full "life coaching" approach, including: daily habits, prayer life, home life, career, nutrition, and overall health. This approach, compared to counseling, is more broad, and not meant for specific and serious mental health issues. Coaching is beneficial for those who are looking to "step up" in life - without necessarily having to step into mental health treatment.
What are the costs?
The cost of counseling through the Good Works is $150/intake and $100 per 50 minute session.
Coaching costs $50/hour, and able to book back-to-back. Some may prefer to start with a 2-hour "get to know you" session, at $100, and then move to $50 one hour appointments weekly.
Can I bill my insurance?
Yes! You can submit a SuperBill to your insurance, in the state of South Carolina, for counseling services only. Your insurance will decide how much to reimburse you for sessions. Some clients receive 100% of their money back, and some receive $0. This will depend on your coverage. SuperBills are available after every session, and include your service code and diagnosis code.
Can I try coaching, and then switch to counseling? Or, vise-versa?
No. Due to the nature of the service, we believe you would be a fit for either counseling or coaching. Once you enter into a relationship with the Good Works, your status as a client or a mentee will remain the same. If at any point during coaching, we feel that counseling would be a better fit, a referral would be made. If you are not sure which one is right for you, please indicate that on the interest form, and we will be happy to discuss that further with you.
